Uniandes Astronomy Journal Club
A student-led space for exploring current research in astronomy and astrophysics through
paper discussions, shared questions, and conversations about how research works in practice.
Founded in 2025:
The Uniandes Astronomy Journal Club was created as the first astronomy journal club at
Universidad de los Andes and one of the first student-led initiatives of its kind in Colombia.

What the club does
The club is designed as a collaborative space where students can become familiar with
scientific literature and the broader research process. Meetings center on reading papers,
discussing methods and results, and asking questions that help connect course material with
real research problems in astronomy and astrophysics.
Main goal:
to make astronomy research more approachable for students by creating a regular space for
discussion, curiosity, and shared learning.
Activities
- Paper reading sessions: reading research papers and discussing their motivation, methods, and conclusions.
- Journal-style meetings: weekly group discussions focused on understanding current topics in astronomy and astrophysics.
- Questions with researchers: conversations with invited researchers to learn more about academic paths, research practice, and open problems in the field.
- Community building: creating a student space where interest in astronomy can grow beyond the classroom.
How we meet
- Frequency: once a week.
- Location: at Universidad de los Andes.
- Format: student-led discussions with occasional invited researchers and open participation.
